When to use it
  • A credit report lists an account, balance, status, date, or personal detail that does not match your records.
  • You have documents that support the correction you are requesting.
  • You want a paper trail for the date and content of the dispute.
Before sending
  • Use your official credit report to identify the exact bureau, item, and account number.
  • Circle or list the disputed item and include copies of supporting documents.
  • Send a separate dispute to the company that supplied the information when appropriate.
