Employment and income verification for lenders, landlords, employers, and government agencies administering benefits.
A notice naming The Work Number means employment or income data may have been used. That data is separate from an Equifax nationwide credit report, even though both businesses are under Equifax.
What may be in the report.
The actual fields depend on the product ordered and whether the company has information about you.
- Employers and employment dates or status
- Income and payroll information supplied by participating employers
- Verifiers that requested the data
Request, freeze, or dispute the right file.
Use these direct paths instead of a paid credit-repair service or a phone number from an unsolicited message. A freeze at one company does not automatically freeze another report.

Official dispute pathFirst three steps.
Do not dispute accurate information just because it led to an unfavorable decision.
- 01 Request the Employment Data Report—not only an Equifax credit report.
- 02 Compare employers, dates, status, pay information, and verifier inquiries.
- 03 Dispute inaccurate data with The Work Number and contact the employer or payroll source that supplied it.
Separate the reporting-company disclosure from the decision-maker’s action.
The company that supplied a report usually did not make the final decision. Use the notice decoder to choose the credit, banking, housing, employment, insurance, or utility context, then identify the report and next record to compare.
